Meet the team: Sophie Strangeway

Sophie meet the team

That’s right: we’re back again with a new Trio team member. We’ve introduced Gary, our Head of Design. Now, it’s time to meet Sophie Strangeway, our Marketing Executive. Sophie recently graduated from Leeds Trinity university this year and is making a groundbreaking start in marketing.

Hear about her accomplishments, fantastic experience and interests outside of work here.

What is your day-to-day role at Trio Media?

As the Marketing Executive, I’ll be helping out across the client relations team. I’ll assist with PPC, paid social, SEO and organic social media work. Whatever needs to be done, I’ll be at hand! Over the last few weeks, I’ve managed a lot of the  social media scheduling and had a hand in writing snappy captions for clients from varying industries.

What did you use to do before joining Trio?

I studied Business and Management at Leeds Trinity University for three years. As part of my degree, I became interested in marketing, taking modules on E-business and E-marketing, International Marketing, Marketing Comms and Marketing Fundamentals.

My university life was filled with opportunities. I held placements at Morrisons and Northgate Lighting, securing experience in business and store management. Alongside this, I volunteered as a Business Course rep, a school rep for Business, Computing and Digital Industries as well as an LTU Enactus Society Treasurer, Financial Lead and Committee member. I collaborated with students and academic staff at these societies, offering advice and contributing to significant decision-making.

I’m also the Project Manager of Recreation at the LTU Enactus Society (volunteer basis). In June, I pitched at the Yorkshire Business Summit for a project providing mental health support to secondary school students through creative art.  At the event, Claire, Trio’s CEO, was one of the judges. This was the first time I met Claire where we exchanged a conversation about the potential of working for Trio. I also won funding for this project and look forward to pushing it ahead as the Project Manager.

Do you have any achievements?

I’m extremely hard-working and dedicated to achieving the best. Over my degree, I earned multiple awards, recognising my passion for success. I won the Dean’s Award for Academic Achievement two years in a row and Bronze, Silver and Gold Course Representative accreditations.

I am proud to hold the Faculty of Business, Computing and Digital Industries Prize for Academic Excellence and a Ken Hodgson Memorial Prize for Exceptional Academic Performance. I graduated with an outstanding 1st class degree and participated in many exciting competitions.

As you can tell, I’ve achieved a lot! All this hard work paid off.

What are some of your interests outside of work?

I love singing – it’s something I’ve done since I was young. I attended performing arts school when I was 12 and participated in acting, dancing and singing. I hold several singing qualifications including Grade 7 and Grade 8 LCM Music Theatre both with Distinctions. When I go to open mic nights, I mostly sing songs from artists like Britney Spears, Jessie J and Dolly Parton.

I also enjoy music in general. I have a varied music taste spanning from Whitney Houston to Metallica and Backstreet Boys to Eminem. I’m your person if you ever need someone for a music quiz.

What made you want to get into digital marketing?

I found my love for marketing while I was at university. I enjoyed the theory and liked how it embraced my creative side. I’m keen to apply all my learning in my work at Trio.

What have you enjoyed about working at Trio so far?

I’ve enjoyed working with the team and getting to know what clients I’ll be working with. Also, I’ve loved learning how to schedule social posts and write captions for our clients. It’s something I’ve not done before!

What advice would you give to someone working in digital marketing?

The marketing industry is constantly changing, so keep up with trends and adapt to what comes your way. Build on your skills, too – volunteer and get work experience at places that match your career goals. Nothing is stopping you – understand where your priorities lie and go!

That’s all from Sophie!
