Meet our Digital Content Creator: Hazel Borkar

Written by Trio Media

Welcome back to another meet the team series! It’s been a while since we last did one. Have you missed us?

Over the summer, we’ve been busy working away and noticed a growing appetite for content creation for our clients, so we decided it was time to expand our digital marketing team. So who’s joined us? Meet Hazel Borkar, our Digital Content Creator.

Hazel joined our team in late August. Since then, she’s infused the office with her Gen-Z charm and made a great start with our clients. Let’s hear from Hazel about her first month in Trio!

What is your day-to-day role at Trio Media?

I handle social media, content writing, graphic design and video content. Like I’d say in my regional language, ‘Chota packet bada dhamaka’ (small bag – big firework). I also develop social and content strategies for clients looking to grow their social reach.

When I’m not working, I’m sharing my gen-z-ness and getting everyone involved in Trio’s social media (please interact with it!).

What did you use to do before joining Trio?

Before joining Trio, I completed my Master’s in International Journalism from the University of Leeds. Prior to that, I worked as an in-house social media manager in Mumbai, India.

I managed all their social media accounts, wrote content for the company’s page, edited videos and collaborated with HR to promote employee mental health and appreciation. I ran several well-received campaigns on these issues. I learned valuable lessons about meeting deadlines, creating innovative campaigns and writing in the company’s tone of voice.

I also had a brief stint as a journalist in the UK with a digital news organisation, where I wrote two articles per week on entertainment and lifestyle topics. This experience taught me how to quickly write news articles, stay alert for the latest news and write well.

In between, I picked up a few video editing and writing gigs just to keep myself busy (and earn some pocket money) and update my skills as I moved from project to project.

What are some of your interests outside of work?

From cooking, knitting, singing, makeup and dancing, I’ve been all over the place when picking my one true talent. I’ve always been good at anything I pick up if I put my mind to it.

Along with having so many different things going on, I can speak six languages—Hindi (my national language), Marathi (my mother tongue), English (duh), Mandarin (thanks Mum and Dad), French (thanks Duolingo), Korean (thanks K-dramas/K-pop) and other regional Indian languages.

I’ve mastered the art of Indian cooking, and I’m slowly making my way toward Japanese cuisine. I love to keep my mind occupied as much as I can.

What made you want to get into digital marketing?

It has been a dream to work in a digital marketing agency. The hustle and bustle in the office, meeting new clients, adapting to the latest trends and coming up with different ideas keep me on my toes. I wanted to work with diverse clients, and Trio gave me exactly that!

Transitioning from journalism to content creation wasn’t easy. Despite being in the same realm, they come with a vastly different set of rules. But, I had a plan. Journalism teaches you ethics, research, and creativity—all super handy for content creation. That’s why I decided to study journalism first, and then dive into a career in content creation.

What have you enjoyed about working at Trio so far?

The team has been the biggest reason I’ve enjoyed my time here. The vibes are immaculate every time I come to the office, so I love working on-site!

It’s only been a month, but I feel included, thanks to the team’s efforts to get to know me. I can’t wait for the Christmas party to get to know the rest of the team.

What advice would you give to someone working in marketing?

Marketing has the power to shape a brand and tell a story. By crafting the perfect strategy, it can transform a brand from zero to hero.

Always keep yourself updated with the latest trends; too much knowledge never goes to waste. My favourite page for keeping up with and decoding marketing trends is @madovermarketing_mom. They speak about innovative marketing strategies adopted globally by big or small brands!

I’m here for the ride as well, and I’m learning while I go. Let’s see what unfolds for me in the future. Have a lovely Brat winter, everyone!
